WeatherXM H2 LoRaWAN
Long-range, low-power weather sensing for farms, campuses and rural properties. Connects through the global LoRaWAN ecosystem with no local Wi-Fi required.
The H2 is built for deployments where Wi-Fi doesn't reach. It uses LoRaWAN — a long-range, low-power radio technology — to transmit weather observations over kilometers to the nearest compatible gateway. It connects to public LoRaWAN networks (including Helium and The Things Network) or to private gateways deployed on your own property.
System Architecture
How H2 works
Direct sub-GHz LoRaWAN broadcasts transmit observations across kilometers without requiring power cords or local routers.
Outdoor sensor array
An all-in-one meteorological unit measuring temperature, humidity, pressure, wind speed and direction, solar radiation, UV, and rain.
Direct LoRaWAN link
The station broadcasts observations directly using sub-GHz LoRa radio. No separate indoor gateway is required if LoRaWAN coverage already exists.
Network routing
Transmissions are received by any compatible LoRaWAN gateway in range and forwarded securely through public or private routers to WeatherXM.
Data delivery
Observations are processed, qualified through quality checks, and delivered to the WeatherXM app, Explorer, and Pro cloud API.
Deployment Planning
Coverage & connectivity options
Before deploying an H2, choose how your station will route packets into the WeatherXM network.
Helium network
Millions of decentralized hotspots worldwide provide public LoRaWAN roaming. In areas with Helium coverage, H2 connects automatically upon provisioning.
The Things Network (TTN)
Community and commercial LoRaWAN gateways in thousands of cities worldwide. Supported via standard packet forwarding to WeatherXM servers.
Private gateways
Deploy an inexpensive off-the-shelf LoRaWAN gateway at your home, barn, or office internet connection to establish multi-kilometer coverage across your land.
Hardware Editions
Network Edition & Open Edition
Identical hardware, build quality, and multi-kilometer RF range. Choose whether to participate in decentralized network incentives.
H2 Network Edition
Lower-priced edition for stations contributing observations under WeatherXM Network rules. Reward eligibility depends on the applicable Network rules and contribution quality.
- ✓ Integrated all-in-one LoRaWAN sensor array
- ✓ Network reward eligibility for qualifying contributions
- ✓ Mobile app onboarding & BLE diagnostics
- ✓ WeatherXM Pro cloud API access
H2 Open Edition
Independent-operation edition for compatible third-party or private LoRaWAN infrastructure. Use customer-controlled network credentials and route observations to the application stack your deployment requires.
- ✓ Integrated all-in-one LoRaWAN sensor array
- ✓ No WeatherXM Network participation commitment
- ✓ Route to private LoRaWAN network servers
- ✓ Customer-controlled LoRaWAN credentials and backend path
